Ways to Effectively Reduce Your Heavy Accent

A lot of spokespeople have accents, on the other hand, not all of them are so important that they can prevent the audience from understanding what they are trying to say. At times, the accents are even seen pretty charming. But then again, a research conducted on the year 2010 by the University of Chicago have concluded that when people tend to work harder in order to understand a heavy foreign accent, they see the speaker as less reliable. The study said that when people will listen to the accented speech, the problem they face decreases the processing of fluency. But rather of seeing the sentences as harder to understand, they will see them as less truthful.

Nevertheless, if you are a spokesperson with a heavy accent, how do you evaluate if it is stealing away the thought you want to convey?

 

1. you have been asked for how many times to repeat yourself.

 

2. you tend to notice that your audience are just nodding in agreement, but truth be told, they don't really understand your message. A great means to verify this is to ask someone to repeat what you have said. If they will get this wrong, then you are most likely not doing well.

 

Here are some things you can do in order to improve your English pronunciation.

 

Speak slowly. Keep in mind that our pronunciation is a lot better if we speak slowly.
